BIOGRAPHY
Mhlengi Shange is a South African artist based in Durban, born 1999 in Kwadabeka. He started drawing at an early age. In primary school he was very fascinated with drawing and doodling on his exercise books hence in high school he chose Visual arts as one of his subjects. He was encouraged by his family to explore art as a career because they saw that he had potential in what he was doing, so they wanted him to explore furthermore with art. After matriculating in 2017 he went to study Fine Art at the Durban University of Technology.
His body of work presents a nostalgic look into his childhood. Thinking back to the way he grew up, he used to battle with self-recrimination yet having the option to acknowledge his past. Being fully aware of who he is and what he does as an artist, he has discovered a manner in which he can convey those encounters through his work of art. @ courtesy of the artist
